Search engine optimization (SEO) remains a cornerstone of online success. To effectively optimize your content for search engines, understanding which keywords will drive the most traffic is essential. Enter Google’s Keyword Planner: a powerful tool that not only helps you find relevant keywords but also enhances your content strategy over time. Here’s why Keyword Planner is the best way to find keywords for SEO and how it can help you create better content.
Accurate and Reliable Data
One of the standout features of Keyword Planner is its access to Google’s vast database of search queries. This means you get accurate and up-to-date information directly from the source. Unlike other keyword tools that rely on estimates or third-party data, Keyword Planner provides insights grounded in real search behavior, ensuring you are targeting keywords that genuinely matter to your audience.
Comprehensive Keyword Research
Keyword Planner offers a range of features that simplify the process of finding the right keywords. You can:
- Discover New Keywords: Enter a seed word or phrase related to your business, and Keyword Planner will generate a list of related keywords.
- Get Search Volume and Forecasts: Understand how often keywords are searched and see forecasts for future trends.
- Analyze Competition: Evaluate the level of competition for chosen keywords, helping you decide which ones are worth targeting.
These tools allow you to make informed decisions about which keywords will best serve your SEO strategy.
Enhanced Content Strategy
Using Keyword Planner to inform your keyword strategy is not just about identifying popular terms; it’s about creating content that resonates with your audience. By consistently analyzing keyword data, you can:
- Identify Content Gaps: Discover topics your audience is interested in that aren’t thoroughly covered by your existing content.
- Refine Your Target Audience: Understand the language and terms your audience uses, allowing you to tailor your content to their needs.
- Stay Ahead of Trends: Keep up with emerging trends and adjust your content strategy accordingly to maintain relevance and engagement.
Cost-Effective Solution
Keyword Planner is a part of Google Ads, meaning it is available at no additional cost if you are using Google’s advertising services. This makes it an accessible and budget-friendly option for businesses of all sizes looking to enhance their SEO efforts.
Integration with Other Tools
The seamless integration of Keyword Planner with other Google tools, such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console, makes it a vital component of a holistic SEO strategy. This integration allows you to track performance, refine strategies, and measure the success of your keyword-targeted content over time.
Sometimes, you don’t have time to do a deep dive into SEO research before creating content. However, most people want some insight into what keywords to include in their titles, descriptions, and content. Below are the top ways I use Keyword Planner to get quick content ideas.
How to Pull Keywords from Competitor Websites:
You can pull keyword inspiration from your competitor’s websites. All you need to do is load their URL into Google’s Keyword Planner Tool and look for areas of opportunity.
1. If you don’t have one already, create a Google Adwords account. You’ll need to connect a credit card but, you don’t have to run ads. (Just double-check that any campaigns are marked “paused”).
2. Go to Tools and Settings -> Keyword Planner in the top gray bar toward the right-hand side.
3. Click “Discover New Keywords” and choose “Start With a Website”
- Enter the domain name of a website that targets a similar audience to you.
- Select “Use the entire Site” if you are using someone’s website. Select “Use only this page” if you’re using a Youtube Channel link.
- Click “Get Results.”
4. On the results page:
- You can change the location to a specific state or region
- You can choose a period of time that works for you. 12 months can be a good starting place.
- You can sort by Avg monthly searches
- Skip to non-branded keywords (Ones without the website’s name). You’ll see ideas for keywords you should use in your video titles and descriptions.
- If the competition is “low” it’s definitely a valuable metric.
5. You can choose Download Keyword Ideas on the right-hand side above the list. This will create a spreadsheet that you can filter and sort.
6. You can repeat this with other websites and youtube channels that are successfully targeting your intended audience. Then, you can create a combined list of keywords and topics that audiences are seeking but, where you may be the only person providing the content.
The Takeaway
Leveraging tools that provide accurate data, comprehensive insights, and budget-friendly solutions is essential. Keyword Planner stands out as the best way to find keywords for SEO due to its reliability, depth of features, and ability to enhance content creation. By consistently utilizing Keyword Planner, businesses can not only improve their SEO but also craft content that truly engages and satisfies their audience.
